Top-Down Grid Layouts: Displaying Tools, Ingredients, and Steps Side-by-Side

When are simultaneous tabletop views useful?

Use simultaneous tabletop views only when they show a useful relationship, such as a technique and its result. Tools, ingredients, and steps should remain readable at the final viewing size.

Put it into practice

  1. Choose one primary pane for the active task. Keep a secondary view for the presenter or result rather than showing unrelated activity beside it.
  2. Arrange ingredients in an order that matches the explanation. Remove packaging that distracts from the quantities or blocks the work area.
  3. Review the supported Fuse layout on a phone. Use an additional finishing editor for custom grid designs or labels beyond the app's existing treatments.

Keep simultaneous views tied to the same step

Use one pane to show the action and another to clarify its effect, such as mixing and the resulting texture. Avoid displaying unrelated preparation steps together when order matters. Viewers should understand why both images remain visible.

Rehearse the busiest step and inspect the final portrait layout. If labels, quantities or utensils become too small, simplify the scene or give the essential action more emphasis.

  • Show a meaningful relationship
  • Preserve recipe order
  • Check quantities at phone size

Questions creators ask

Should every tool have its own visible pane?

Use a pane only when it explains a current relationship or action. A row of idle tools can shrink the active demonstration without helping the viewer.

How can you test a recipe grid layout?

Export a brief example showing the ingredient, action and result. Ask whether each pane remains readable and whether viewers can identify the current step.

A mistake to avoid

A dense grid of tiny ingredients may look organized on a monitor while becoming unusable in a vertical post.

Before the full take

Rehearse the complete task with hands, tools, and ingredients in place. Secure overhead mounts, keep equipment clear of the work area, and check the detail view at the final phone viewing size.

Record a short test, review the picture and sound, then adjust the setup. A rehearsal on your actual devices is the quickest way to check whether the workflow fits the scene.
