Building a Repeatable Tee-Drill Video Station

How do you build a repeatable tee-drill recording station?

Make your tee station easy to reset: mark the tee position, choose protected phone locations and decide who starts each recording. Check the frame again whenever a new hitter steps in.

Put it into practice

  1. Mark approved camera and tee positions without adding obstacles to the hitter's movement.
  2. Assign one operator to start, identify and stop each short athlete set.
  3. Check the athlete name or agreed identifier before saving the review clip.

Choose evidence the recording can actually show

Use a written reset list covering tee position, handedness and recording identity. A station that works for one player may crop another player's finish. Preview the new athlete's complete movement before reusing the previous framing.

Questions coaches ask

Does a tee station run without supervision?

A repeatable camera routine does not remove coaching, athlete-identification or safety responsibilities. Assign those roles explicitly and simplify the station if staffing is insufficient.

What must change for a new hitter?

Check identity, handedness, tee position and full swing framing. A saved setup from the prior player is a reference, not proof the next player remains in view.

A mistake to avoid

Calling a station autonomous can obscure the operator and supervision responsibilities it still requires.

Before the full take

Choose protected phone positions with the coach before practice starts. Keep them out of throwing and batting paths, film a short test and label each player's attempts as you go.

Record a short test, review the picture and sound, then adjust the setup. A rehearsal on your actual devices is the quickest way to check whether the workflow fits the scene.
