Batting Video: Choosing Open-Side and Target-Line Perspectives

How do you choose camera angles for batting practice?

Start with a protected view of the hitter's open side, then add a view that shows the drill around them. Check the whole swing, including the finish, before you tighten the picture.

Put it into practice

  1. Use the cage or field's designated protected areas for both supports and operators.
  2. Test the full swing and follow-through with the hitter's actual stance and handedness.
  3. Compare a short batting set with the coach before tightening either crop.

Choose evidence the recording can actually show

A tee drill and live batting practice create different timing demands. Keep those conditions in the clip label and avoid presenting one as a directly equivalent test of the other. The recording helps explain the drill; it does not isolate its cause.

Questions coaches ask

Should the hitter change stance for a camera?

The lesson should determine the task. Reposition approved recording equipment instead of changing a normal action merely to make an attractive batting angle.

What does an open-side view add?

It may reveal action hidden in another perspective, depending on handedness and framing. Confirm that contribution in the saved sample rather than assuming a label guarantees visibility.

A mistake to avoid

A view that hides the hands behind the body cannot support a confident discussion of the bat's visible route.

Try it with VidFuego

Use a Nearby Squad Fuse to record both batting views together. Watch a few swings with the hitter before changing the camera positions or introducing another cue.

Record synchronized angles from multiple supported devices. Free includes a two-camera Nearby session. Higher camera counts and Anywhere hosting depend on your plan.

Before the full take

Choose protected phone positions with the coach before practice starts. Keep them out of throwing and batting paths, film a short test and label each player's attempts as you go.

Record a short test, review the picture and sound, then adjust the setup. A rehearsal on your actual devices is the quickest way to check whether the workflow fits the scene.
