Using Running Video to Discuss a Coach-Selected Cue

How do you use running footage to explain one coaching cue?

Agree on one running cue, record a short pass and talk about what you can see. You don't need to turn an ordinary clip into a force measurement to make it useful.

Put it into practice

  1. Have the coach explain the cue in ordinary language before the recorded pass.
  2. Use the same approved observation zone for the initial and follow-up attempts.
  3. Review what changed visibly and retain the task conditions alongside the clips.

Choose evidence the recording can actually show

Do not promise a correction from a single before-and-after pass. The coach may need more observations or a different teaching approach. The record is useful when it shows the task clearly and states what cannot be concluded from it.

Questions coaches ask

Does a visible foot position reveal braking force?

No. An image records appearance rather than directly measuring force. Keep the explanation qualitative unless an appropriate separate measurement supplies evidence.

What belongs in a follow-up running clip?

The same clearly identified coach-selected task and observation zone where practical. State changed conditions instead of promising a correction from one before-and-after pass.

A mistake to avoid

Describing a visible foot position as a measured force turns a coaching observation into an unsupported result.

Before the full take

Ask the venue where you can film, then choose the short stretch your lesson needs to show. Leave lanes, runways and landing areas clear, and check a saved sample before the next attempt.

Record a short test, review the picture and sound, then adjust the setup. A rehearsal on your actual devices is the quickest way to check whether the workflow fits the scene.
