LUT Applications: Applying Look Up Tables Across Multi-Angle Mobile Footage

How should you use LUTs across mobile camera footage?

A LUT is a predefined color mapping, not an automatic fix for exposure or white-balance differences. Use a technical transform appropriate to the source before applying a creative look.

Put it into practice

  1. Identify each clip's source color space and your editor's working space. Check whether color management already handles the conversion before adding an input LUT.
  2. Correct obvious exposure and balance differences between angles. Apply a creative LUT conservatively and compare its effect on skin, shadows, and bright surfaces.
  3. Check several moments in every angle and inspect the export. Reduce or remove the look where it damages useful detail rather than forcing all clips through it unchanged.

Match the source before applying a look

Identify what each camera actually recorded before choosing a transform. A LUT intended for one source can make another look incorrect. Compare neutral references and correct practical mismatches before adding a creative treatment.

Test the same look on several representative shots in a capable grading tool. If a face or product color becomes misleading, adjust the treatment rather than expecting the LUT to repair capture differences.

  • Compare neutral references
  • Inspect accurate colors

Questions creators ask

What is a useful first comparison before applying a look?

Compare a shared neutral surface and skin or product colors across cameras. Resolve obvious capture mismatches before judging whether the creative treatment fits.

What if the LUT damages only one angle?

Inspect that angle's source and color-management path. Adjust or remove the treatment in the finishing editor instead of forcing identical settings on unlike recordings.

A mistake to avoid

Applying a Log conversion twice can create excessive contrast and clipped highlights.

Before the full take

Preserve original files and test the complete capture-to-export path before the main production. Identify source formats, choose a reference angle, and distinguish VidFuego capture features from specialist finishing tools.

Record a short test, review the picture and sound, then adjust the setup. A rehearsal on your actual devices is the quickest way to check whether the workflow fits the scene.
