Estimating Storage and Backup Needs for Long Events
How do you estimate phone storage for a long event?
Prepare storage for a long event by measuring a rehearsal recording, estimating the planned session length, and keeping room for export. Verify backups before deleting any originals.
Put it into practice
- Record a representative test using the intended quality and count its file size. Multiply that observed requirement by the expected recording time, allowing extra room for retakes and finishing.
- Check available space on every recording device and the device assembling the result. Remove only files already backed up and verified, before the event rather than during a key moment.
- Schedule transfer breaks between sessions and inspect copied files for duration and playback. Keep a second copy of important originals before freeing the capture phone.
Estimate the complete recording and finishing load
Record a representative sample with the intended devices and note size and duration. Use that sample as a planning estimate for each phone, leaving room for transfer and export. A host's free space does not establish capacity on the other cameras.
Plan checks at natural breaks and verify copies before deleting anything. Keep original media until the delivered result and backup path have both been confirmed.
- Estimate per device
- Leave finishing space
- Verify before deleting
Questions creators ask
Why should you include export space in the estimate?
Captured media and the finished output can coexist during production. Measure a representative rehearsal and leave working room instead of filling the phone with originals.
When is it safe to remove a recording?
Verify the intended backup and its ability to open before removing the source. A transfer progress indicator alone does not establish that the recording is recoverable.
A mistake to avoid
An upload indicator or a filename alone does not prove the copied video is complete and playable.
From idea to recording
Try it with VidFuego
Rehearse capture, transfer, and export in Squad Fuses before the event. Check current plan limits and retain your own backups instead of treating temporary staging as permanent storage.
Record synchronized angles from multiple supported devices. Free includes a two-camera Nearby session. Higher camera counts and Anywhere hosting depend on your plan.
Before the full take
Agree on the moments and participants that may be recorded. Rehearse a dependable wide view and a complementary close view, verify sound and recording limits, and plan backup coverage for moments that cannot be repeated.
Record a short test, review the picture and sound, then adjust the setup. A rehearsal on your actual devices is the quickest way to check whether the workflow fits the scene.
