Long and Triple Jump Practice: Approach and Takeoff Coverage

How do you record the approach and takeoff in jump practice?

Give your coach a view that connects the approach and takeoff. A closer second angle can help, but only if it stays outside the runway and leaves the landing area clear.

Put it into practice

  1. Confirm support and operator positions with the coach and venue before the first approach.
  2. Check the complete approved observation area, including the athlete's movement after takeoff.
  3. Identify attempts in sequence so a close view can be traced to the correct approach.

Choose evidence the recording can actually show

If board contact is hidden or falls between frames, label that limitation rather than assigning a precise contact point. Official measurements and the coach's instructions remain separate from the appearance of a phone export.

Questions coaches ask

What if board contact is hidden?

Label it as unresolved. The video may still show parts of the approach, but it cannot establish a contact position that neither view clearly captures.

Should filming follow the athlete onto the runway?

No. Use the venue-approved fixed arrangement and preserve normal runway operations. A moving operator should not become an extra obstacle to obtain close coverage.

A mistake to avoid

A cropped takeoff image cannot establish approach speed or explain every cause of the jump result.

Try it with VidFuego

Record the jump attempt in Squad Fuses and label it before the next athlete goes. Say when board contact isn't visible rather than guessing from a nearby frame.

Before the full take

Ask the venue where you can film, then choose the short stretch your lesson needs to show. Leave lanes, runways and landing areas clear, and check a saved sample before the next attempt.

Record a short test, review the picture and sound, then adjust the setup. A rehearsal on your actual devices is the quickest way to check whether the workflow fits the scene.
