Putting Lessons: Recording the Putter, Player and Target

Which camera views help explain a putting lesson?

Start with a view that shows the golfer, ball and target. Then add a closer view only if it helps your student see the part of the stroke you're explaining.

Put it into practice

  1. Choose a protected context position that shows the player, ball and intended target together.
  2. Use a second view only if the putter remains readable without placing a phone near the ball's route.
  3. Record several clearly separated attempts and retain which target and starting position each used.

Choose evidence the recording can actually show

If the putter becomes tiny in a portrait mosaic, shorten the visible area or reconsider the second view. Preserve an uncropped reference where needed for discussion, and avoid drawing conclusions from a reflection or a frame in which contact is hidden.

Questions coaches ask

Is a putting close-up always better?

Only if it remains readable and preserves the question's context. A wider view may explain the player's intention more clearly than a tiny putter in a multi-pane export.

Can the clip certify putter face angle?

This setup is not calibrated for that measurement. Use it for the visible lesson example and keep any specialist measurement separate and attributable to its source.

A mistake to avoid

A tight crop of the putter removes the context needed to understand where the player intended to start the ball.

Before the full take

Agree on the point you want to teach, then put the phones where they can show it. Keep them outside the swing and ball paths, and save a quick note about the positions for next time.

Record a short test, review the picture and sound, then adjust the setup. A rehearsal on your actual devices is the quickest way to check whether the workflow fits the scene.
