Face-On Golf Video: Keeping the Player and Finish in Frame

How do you frame a face-on golf swing recording?

Give the golfer enough room in the picture to make a full swing and finish naturally. A face-on view helps you talk about what you can see; it doesn't tell you how pressure is moving through their feet.

Put it into practice

  1. Confirm a front recording position that leaves the golfer, instructor and nearby bays unobstructed.
  2. Frame the stance and full finish, then check a rehearsal with the actual club used in the lesson.
  3. Keep the same lens and support position for a second set when the instructor changes one cue.

Choose evidence the recording can actually show

Review whether the athlete moves toward or away from the camera during the finish. That depth change can alter apparent size and alignment. Keep the discussion tied to what is actually visible and ask the instructor which single cue the next attempt should address.

Questions coaches ask

Can face-on footage measure weight transfer?

Not by itself. Visible body movement and actual pressure or force distribution are different observations; quantitative claims need an appropriate independently validated measurement method.

How wide should the face-on crop be?

Wide enough to retain the full action the coach wants to discuss. Test the stance and finish with the actual club instead of framing only a static pose.

A mistake to avoid

Describing visible movement as measured weight transfer adds information that ordinary video does not establish.

Before the full take

Agree on the point you want to teach, then put the phones where they can show it. Keep them outside the swing and ball paths, and save a quick note about the positions for next time.

Record a short test, review the picture and sound, then adjust the setup. A rehearsal on your actual devices is the quickest way to check whether the workflow fits the scene.
