Full-Body and Detail Coverage for Dance Videos
How should you combine full-body and detail dance coverage?
Keep a full-body safety view throughout the routine and add detail coverage only where it clarifies expression or technique. Rehearse the largest movement before recording.
Put it into practice
- Mark the choreography's travel area and test the highest jump and widest reach. Include a floor reference without leaving excessive empty headroom.
- Place a secondary view for a specific detail such as footwork or upper-body expression. Avoid choosing a crop that loses the dancer whenever they travel.
- Record a rehearsal and check timing, focus, and frame edges. Keep stands and cables outside the complete movement path.
Rehearse the routine's largest travel
Mark the full floor area used by the dancer, including jumps, turns and extended arms. Position the safety view to include that range. A detail camera can emphasize footwork, but it should supplement coverage rather than replace the only complete view.
Record the most expansive section as a short Squad Fuse and inspect both the full-body frame and the intended layout. Move supports when they intrude into the performance space.
- Mark the complete movement area
- Test extended limbs
- Preserve a full-body view
Questions creators ask
Which movement should set the frame boundaries?
Rehearse the largest reach and travel in the routine, including floor work when relevant. Preserve a dependable full-body view before adding a close detail that might lose context.
When is a detail view worth including?
Include it when it explains expression or a specific technique while the overall movement remains understandable. Inspect the finished treatment at phone size before adding more angles.
A mistake to avoid
Framing the starting pose rather than the whole routine often clips hands or feet at the most important moment.

Before the full take
Rehearse the complete movement path before recording. Keep stands and cables outside that path, and verify that hands, feet, and equipment remain visible at the extremes.
Record a short test, review the picture and sound, then adjust the setup. A rehearsal on your actual devices is the quickest way to check whether the workflow fits the scene.
