Shadowboxing Video: Recording the Full Coach-Selected Sequence

How do you record shadowboxing for an instructor's review?

Frame the whole sequence your instructor has asked for, including footwork and recovery. A hand-only crop can leave out the movement that gives the lesson its meaning.

Put it into practice

  1. Agree on the sequence and approved observation area with the instructor before filming.
  2. Frame the complete lateral movement and return path from two fixed perimeter positions.
  3. Review the whole sequence before selecting a short moment for the instructor's explanation.

Choose evidence the recording can actually show

Avoid presenting a solo sequence as proof of how the athlete responds to a live opponent. The footage documents the assigned practice activity; a different question may need a different supervised drill and a new recording plan.

Questions coaches ask

Can shadowboxing predict counter-attack openings automatically?

No such app capability is claimed. A solo recording shows the assigned sequence, while the instructor decides what feedback it can appropriately support.

Why preserve the complete movement area?

Hand positions can be understood differently when footwork and return movement are visible. Cropping them out may change the apparent meaning of the example.

A mistake to avoid

Cropping out foot movement can change the apparent meaning of a hand-position observation.

Before the full take

Let the instructor choose and supervise the demonstration. Put the phones beyond the working area, film a short sequence and check which details need a clearer explanation.

Record a short test, review the picture and sound, then adjust the setup. A rehearsal on your actual devices is the quickest way to check whether the workflow fits the scene.
