Using Retention Reports to Diagnose a Video

How do you test a fix after finding a retention problem?

Retention reports identify where viewing changes, not why each person left. Pair the timeline with the actual explanation and compare similar videos before drawing conclusions.

Put it into practice

  1. Find a sustained drop or repeated pattern and note what occurs in the video at that point, including audio, framing and topic changes.
  2. Form one plausible explanation, such as an unreadable object or delayed answer, and distinguish it from what the report actually proves.
  3. Record a revised example with clearer VidFuego coverage and compare a suitable subsequent video rather than promising causation from one result.

A practical example

A decline during a small-parts demonstration may suggest the detail view is too distant. Reframe the task and test the hypothesis instead of adding cuts automatically.

Questions creators ask

What is a useful first production change?

Choose a change connected to the observed problem. If a component is unreadable, move the detail camera closer and check the Fuse at phone size. If the explanation delays the answer, revise the sequence. Adding cuts indiscriminately does not test either hypothesis.

How should you document the comparison?

Record the original observation, proposed explanation, changed element and differences in topic or publication context. Compare suitable subsequent videos and treat the results as evidence to investigate. An organic upload comparison cannot isolate every influence on audience behavior.

A mistake to avoid

A single retention curve cannot prove that one camera angle caused every viewer to leave.

Choose your next step

From idea to recording

Try it with VidFuego

Use the retention report to identify a moment worth inspecting in the saved Fuse. Review that passage for missing context or unreadable detail before changing camera choices based on an assumed cause.

With Pro, use on-device analysis for a suggested first multi-camera cut. Review the result and override scene choices before sharing; editorial judgment remains yours.

Before the full take

Capture useful complementary views and review the explanation before changing pacing. AI suggestions remain subject to your scene-by-scene editorial judgment.

Record a short test, review the picture and sound, then adjust the setup. A rehearsal on your actual devices is the quickest way to check whether the workflow fits the scene.
