Pickleball Volley Drills: Showing Hands, Feet and Court Space

How do you film a pickleball volley drill for feedback?

Show the space between players as well as their hands. A wider view can explain a fast volley exchange even when the camera can't resolve every instant of paddle contact.

Put it into practice

  1. Position fixed supports beyond the court's run-off area with the coach's approval.
  2. Test a short exchange that includes the widest lateral movement and reset.
  3. Review a complete rally segment before choosing an individual volley for discussion.

Choose evidence the recording can actually show

If paddle-ball contact is unclear, discuss visible preparation or positioning instead of inventing the contact angle. Keep the drill's tactical instruction separate from a phone image that cannot establish every fine movement.

Questions coaches ask

Can the camera resolve every volley contact?

Fast contact may blur or fall between frames. Discuss visible preparation or positioning when appropriate instead of inventing detail the recorded sample cannot show.

Why show court spacing in a hands drill?

The athletes' positions help explain the exchange. A paddle-only crop may conceal the setup that made the coach's selected example useful.

A mistake to avoid

A cropped paddle view can hide the spacing and footwork that created the exchange.

Before the full take

Keep phones outside the court's playing and run-off areas. Start with one view of the whole drill and another that adds a useful detail, then check the video on a phone.

Record a short test, review the picture and sound, then adjust the setup. A rehearsal on your actual devices is the quickest way to check whether the workflow fits the scene.
