Updating iOS Before a Shoot: Rehearse the Complete Workflow

When should you update iOS on a production kit?

Update production phones with enough time to rehearse the full workflow afterward. Routine preparation should include current support and security needs, while avoiding untested changes immediately before an irreplaceable take.

Put it into practice

  1. Review the intended iOS and app updates, compatibility, and release information. Make a verified backup before changes that could affect the production.
  2. Install with time for setup and a representative recording, transfer, and export rehearsal. Test accessories and session discovery again.
  3. Keep a known working fallback and record the versions used. Follow urgent security or support guidance instead of adopting a blanket never-update policy.

Example: prepare for an irreplaceable event

Set aside time before the event to review current iOS and app requirements, make backups, and test any relevant updates. Rehearse the actual camera positions, sound, recording duration, transfer, and export afterward. A successful startup is useful but does not test the network and media path the event will depend on.

Keep a version note and a dependable fallback. If an urgent security or support issue changes the plan, follow appropriate current guidance and repeat the affected checks. Do not publish a blanket recommendation to avoid updates indefinitely, and do not treat factory reset, Developer Mode, or a RAM cleaner as routine preparation for VidFuego.

Questions creators ask

What should you rehearse after an update?

Run the actual camera mode, participating-device connection, audio test and export path. An app opening successfully is only the first check; the production needs the complete workflow to remain usable.

How should you handle an imminent irreplaceable take?

Leave time for required support and security decisions and for rehearsal. Avoid presenting one universal update timing rule; record the tested configuration and plan changes around the actual production constraints.

A mistake to avoid

A successful app launch after an update is not a complete camera and networking validation.

From idea to recording

Try it with VidFuego

Rehearse VidFuego across the actual supported devices after relevant updates. Do not infer multi-camera reliability from a single phone's startup.

Record synchronized angles from multiple supported devices. Free includes a two-camera Nearby session. Higher camera counts and Anywhere hosting depend on your plan.

Before the full take

Preserve affected media and record the device, app version, conditions, and failed step. Use short controlled tests and targeted support guidance before destructive resets or broad configuration changes.

Record a short test, review the picture and sound, then adjust the setup. A rehearsal on your actual devices is the quickest way to check whether the workflow fits the scene.
